Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works. – Steve Jobs

Being a part of the brand team at LogixHealth Inc., a medical coding and billing business in Bedford, MA, I did user interface design for SAAS web applications used both, internally and by our external clients. On a daily basis, I worked with a cross-functional product team. The impact I’ve made at LogixHealth Inc. resulted in new and improved workflows and processes, UI standards that were implemented across all our LH applications, and new additions to our UI style guide.

Project 1. Roles & Permissions Redesign

The project objective was to redefine an existing workflow and redesign ui for Roles & Permissions setup across all LogixHeath applications. Our business analytics team communicated a concern about functionality errors occurring when using a Roles & Permissions matrix and requested a redesign. I designed a new user interface that solved the functionality problems and had several other advantages.

Old Design – Matrix

New Design

THE NEW DESIGN ALLOWED US:
1. Create a scalable modern solution well-fit for a responsive layout.
2. Introduce a clear visual indicator for a user to differentiate between setting up permissions to view an entire app tab and the actions performed within a tab.
3. Substitute a confusing functionality with the one leading a user to set up a role with ability to perform certain actions on a tab only after granting the actual access to the tab.
4. Create more space for a single tab allowing to spell out all and only actions performed on a tab without graying out/disabling other as in the matrix.

ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGES:
1. Using a drawer allows a user to stay on a current screen and be more engaged with a certain step in the process.
2. Collapsible sections help contain tabs with extensive functionality and let a user quickly set up roles with less permissions.

Project 2. Application Design

Managing Data

Throughout my experience at LogixHealth, a business would come quite regularly with a need to work with or manage large groups of clients such as health care organizations with multiple sites or insurances. Numbers would be from a hundred to hundreds. We needed a way to reflect this in our application interface and provide a tool to manage the data.

Defining a Process

Quite often in our applications, in order to add a new or edit an existing parameter, we’d need to break a workflow into a multistep process. While working on Claim Status application, I redesigned the interface for a process to visually guide our user through. Claim Status is an app built to assist with processing claims coming from medical offices to insurance companies by using 276 & 277 transaction files.

Project 3. User Portal Flows

Settings

User portal Connect hosts all LH SAAS applications. Our internal users (LH employees) and external users (clients) get provisioned to gain access to the apps.  The project covered the majority of the flows in Connect Settings, including user, site, department and app management. Below is an updated flow in Site Management.

Once a new organization comes on board, the business has a need to provision large groups of users. The project objective was to ease the process, reconstruct the existing flows and find a way to apply some actions to multiple users with different attributes at once. There were several challenges along the way! For example, in User Settings, within one interface, we needed a way to add multiple users’ details using several different ways: typing the information manually in line, exporting it from an excel sheet or other text file with all or only some attributes, and ability to add multiple users at once.

Webinars

Along with access to all LH applications, in our user web portal Connect we’d offer online training webinars for medical professionals – our clients. They could watch a webinar on a certain topic, take an exam, get certified and earn a CME credit. Below is a workflow and ui I designed to cover all test taking, evaluation and certifying process.
